"In his classic 1975 book, The Problem of Wineskins, Howard Snyder writes that church buildings attest to five facts about the Western church: its immobility, inflexibility, lack of fellowship, pride, and class divisions. "The gospel says 'Go,' but our church buildings say, 'Stay.' The gospel says, 'Seek the lost,' but our churches say, 'Let the lost seek the church.' The medium is the message. And more than that, once a building has been erected, the church program and budget are largely determined by it. In order to service the mortgage, the church has to keep the pews filled and the offerings up, and so the pattern of the attractional mode is reinforced and confirmed (69)."
"The devil is just as much God's servant in his rebellion as he was God's servant in the days of his sweet obedience. Even today, he cannot act without God's express permission; he can neither tempt, coerce, demonize, nor make so much as a single plan without the consent and approval of God (102)."
"Why is it important that we know this? That God might be rightly honored as King of kings, as God, the ruler of heaven and earth (102-103)."
Two new freezers will be delivered today for the Operation Blessing food ministry. Thanks to Cindy Mullins for her hard work in securing a grant for the freezers. Last month Operation Blessing provided food for 132 families.
Back to the drawing board for this week's message. I can't shake the theme of revival. I do wonder why God doesn't bring these revelations earlier in the week. God is up to something.
It
gives the Deacon Board great pleasure to announce that Christy Zaucha has been
hired by the Deacon Board as the new church administrator, effective December 1st.Here are some important things for you to
know:
After many years of faithful service, Mary Smith
expressed her desire to step down from the position of office
manager.Much thanks to Mary for
the many blessings she has brought to the office of FirstBaptistChurch.
We love you Mary!
As our church continues to grow, we are faced with
the growing need to expand the role of office manager to that of church
administrator.The church
administrator will be responsible for coordinating all of the ministries
and activities of the church in addition to fulfilling the traditional
responsibilities of the office manager.
Several church families approached the Deacon Board
and the Zauchas with the vision of having Christy become the church
administrator so that she could leave her full-time job with Behavioral
Science Technology.This was viewed
to be positive for many reasons:
Christy would be more available to fulfill her roles
as wife and as Mom.
Christy would once again be able to work with Chad
as a team in ministry. This has
been her heart’s desire all along.
Christy brings a great deal of experience as she has
functioned in a similar role at a church with multiple staff and 500 people.
Christy is currently working at a position that is
detail and organization intensive.
Christy knows best how to help Chad.
After praying over the possibility for some time, Chad
and Christy viewed the opportunity as an open door provided by God which
would be a blessing to their family
as well as the church.
Jana Fletcher and Maridella Seek will also be
volunteering time to further strengthen the office.
The Deacon
Board would like to express appreciation to Mary Smith, Janine Conahey, and,
Maridella Seek for their help in maintaining the office until Christy begins on
December 1st.
