At this time we have seven men signed up to be a part of this experiment we are calling "Ironworks." I am hugely encouraged by this first group and expect there to be others joining us soon. Here again is the strategy: (1) Meet with Chad once per month; (2) Meet with a small group once per month; (3) Meet all together once per month. The three meetings will provide three different perspectives on our spiritual journeys and three different avenues of encouragement.
I learned a valuable lesson today about the character of this ministry. Most of you know that I am a cyclist wannabe. I do my best Lance Armstrong impersonation a couple of times a week. I typically ride by myself and cover the distance at a comfortable pace. Well, today I tried a spinning class at the Bryant Street Gym. There was nothing comfortable about it. Spinning is a group of people riding special stationary bikes while a leader yells "encouragement." Think basic training on a bike. I was drenched with sweat by the time the hour was up. I worked harder and got more out of it than when I ride by myself. I grew. Was it hard work? Yes. Was it uncomfortable? yes. But I am better for having been a part of it. Ironworks is about not riding alone. It is about encouraging one another on our spiritual journeys. I look forward to journeying with you.
